How Green is Your Grass?

You’re probably thinking this has something to do with the fact that I live in California and are aware that the southern half of our state is in a serious drought, making lawn watering an activity that is now being discouraged, but you would be wrong.

Last week I had the opportunity to attend a dinner supporting organizations helping the disabled, both children and adults. There were wonderful speeches, silent auctions and awards given. The award of the year was given to a young man with autism. He is very active in the community, working diligently on bringing awareness to the world regarding autism. He spoke of his ups and down, periods of wanting to give up and what life was like for him. He was profoundly well spoken and inspirational. At the end of his speech he gave us his five mantras of life. Though all struck me, the one sentence he said that had the largest impact was very simple: the grass is always greener.. where you choose to water it.

Now, I am not sure if this is a common statement or if I have heard it before but for some reason I heard it, loud and clear! I then found myself reflecting on my life. I am not the type of person who lives with the thought that the grass is always greener elsewhere, but at this moment am I truly watering the grass where I stand? The answer is yes, but I feel as though I have been watering with the drought mentality - - - a bit here, a bit there. So from this point on I have decided to put the hose on high and let it run!!!

So I ask you now, is the drought mentality showing up in your life? If so, should you consider adjusting your hose?
